Lexus RX 2022 vs. Lexus RX L 2022: three differences between the two versions of the Lexus RX

The new Lexus RX 2022 returns this year with all the elements that have dictated the success of the Lexus mid-size luxury SUV since its arrival on the market more than 20 years ago. The Lexus RX was the first luxury SUV to enter North America and launched one of the most popular segments today.

The Lexus RX continues to lead the way in reliability, comfort, luxury and advanced technology. It is one of the most reliable luxury SUVs you can buy, but it offers much more than that. The Lexus RX 2022 also offers plenty of interior space, no matter which version you buy.

It's available in two versions, the Lexus RX 2022 and the Lexus RX L 2022, the extended version. We thought we'd give you an overview of the differences between the two models to help you decide which version is best for you. So here are three differences between the Lexus RX 2022 and the Lexus RX L 2022.

Interior Space

The Lexus RX 2022 has a wheelbase of 2,789 mm regardless of trim level. That said, the Lexus RX L 2022 measures 5,000 mm in length versus 4,880 mm for the Lexus RX 2022. This additional space is mostly found behind the rear wheels, which allows the Lexus RX L to add a third row of seats. It can therefore accommodate 7 passengers in the RX 350 L version with a V6 engine and 6 passengers in the version with hybrid engine.

However, this reduces the available space in the second row from 964 mm in the Lexus RX to 786 mm in the RX L. You also have a little less headroom in the RX L up front.

In other words, the Lexus RX is roomier than the Lexus RX L in the front and middle seats. But, you can carry more than five passengers in the RX L. If you need that extra seating, the RX L is for you. If it's occasional and you'll mostly use the front seats and second row, then the Lexus RX is the best option.

Cargo Space

Conversely, the Lexus RX L 2022 is more spacious in the trunk than the Lexus RX. It offers 652 liters of cargo space behind the center seat while the Lexus RX offers 453 liters behind the rear seats. Total space behind the front seats is 1,656 liters in the Lexus RX L while the Lexus RX offers 923 liters. You have an additional 211 liters of space behind the third row in the Lexus RX L. If cargo space is your priority, the RX L gives you more.

Price

The 2022 Lexus RX L starts at $60,500 in the RX 350 trim and $77,500 in the RX 450h trim. That's only $3,000 more for the 350 model, but $17,300 more for the hybrid version. The reason is that the Lexus RX 450h L is only available in a fully equipped version. Ultimately, the price difference between the two models with the same equipment is about $3,000.

For the rest, the Lexus RX 2022 and the Lexus RX L 2022 are very similar. They both offer a choice of a traditional gasoline engine (3.5-liter V6) or a hybrid powertrain with 308 horsepower and an average fuel consumption of less than 8.0 L/100 km. Both also offer exemplary comfort and performance as well as a quiet ride that is unmatched in the segment. Come and learn more today!
