Three things to know about the new Lexus GX 460

The term Sport Utility Vehicle, or SUV, has evolved to encompass everything that clearly isn’t a car. As such, the “utility” aspect has been diluted and means little more than a slightly higher seating posiion. Lexus has stayed the course and continues to offer one the most capable SUVs available anywhere.

The Lexus GX is as rugged as it is luxurious, demonstrating that it is possible to have everything you need in one vehicle. Here are three things you need to know about this impressive true SUV.

It is luxuriously appointed

The new Lexus GX 460 was designed to pamper its occupants, up to seven of them, with a grand list of standard features. All seating positions are covered in sumptuous semi-analine leather. The front seats are both cooled and heated for all-weather comfort. The second row also includes a heating function. The beautiful wood and leather-wrapped steering wheel is also heated. On the topic of comfort, the GX also includes a 3-zone independent automatic climate control system.

Onboard technologies include an 8-inch infotainment display, voice-activated navigation, a 17-speaker premium Mark Levinson surround sound audio system, XM satellite radio, a 4.2-inch full colour multi-information display, and much more.

Truly capable, on and off-road

Beyond the vast list of creature comforts, the new Lexus GX 460 is designed to take its occupants anywhere. Its body on frame construction enables the GX to be pushed beyond the limits of all other SUVs in its segment.

The Lexus GX 460’s full-time four-wheel-drive system ensures that all wheels are working at all times. Combined with the Active Traction Control (A-TRAC), the GX is practically unstoppable. The standard Kinetic Dynamic suspension system with Automatic Load Levelling Rear Air suspension not only keeps the tires in contact with the surface beneath at all times, but also creates an extremely smooth drive.

The standard 4.6-litre V8 generates 329 lb.-ft. of torque, more than enough to tow up to 2,948 kilograms (6,500 lbs.) with relative ease.

Executive Package

This optional package further elevates the Lexus GX 460’s clout to whole other level, both in capabilities and luxury. Included are a front console cool box and a rear entertainment system. As well, the GX gains the Multi-Terrain Select with 5-Stage Crawl Control feature and a transmission fluid cooler. Finally, for a dash more visual appeal, the SUV will be fitted with 19-inch alloy wheels.

The new Lexus GX 460 is not just any luxury SUV, it’s the only luxury vehicle that is a true SUV.
