Fifth-Gen Hybrid Tech Debuts: Inside the New Lexus UX

The Lexus UX has earned a reputation as a stylish and agile compact luxury crossover, equally at home navigating city streets or heading out on the open road. For 2025, this urban warrior is receiving a major powertrain upgrade that elevates its performance and efficiency to new levels.

The star of the show is the introduction of Lexus' fifth-generation Hybrid System in the UX 300h model. This advanced powertrain pairs an inline four-cylinder gas engine with two motor-generators, an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission, and a compact lithium-ion battery pack - a lithium-ion upgrade from previous nickel-metal hydride batteries.

The result? A boosted 196 combined system horsepower rating, thanks to a higher output from the motors enabled by a new hybrid transaxle design. Lexus has also integrated a shift-by-wire technology for quicker and seamless gear changes.

But raw power is only part of the equation. The 2025 UX 300h comes standard with Lexus' AWD system, now with a permanent rear synchronous motor for improved traction and all-weather confidence. And with a low center of gravity plus meticulously tuned chassis and suspension, it promises agile and responsive driving dynamics.

Safety and tech sees generous upgrades too, with new advanced driver aids and a larger available digital instrument cluster for improved control. "The new UX 300h takes Lexus' urban agility and performance to the next level," said Martin Gilbert, Director of Lexus Canada. "It's the perfect partner for our guests' active lifestyles."

While maintaining its SUV versatility in a compact footprint, the 2025 Lexus UX 300h elevates the hybrid compact luxury game. With robust power, all-weather capability, and cutting-edge efficiency, this crossover is no longer just an urban runabout - it's a true premium performance vehicle ready to conquer the city and the open road.
