The 2023 Lexus RX gains considerable improvements

Introduced on May 31, the 2023 Lexus RX is everything we expected the new premium luxury SUV from Lexus to be. The Lexus RX has always been one of the most popular luxury SUVs on the market in Canada and is considered the pioneer of midsize luxury SUVs. It was also one of first luxury sport utility vehicles to be offered with a hybrid powertrain. The 2023 Lexus RX builds on everything that has dictated the success of the previous generations of the RX while also offering an enhanced lineup of hybrid engines developing more power and better efficiency, more connectivity and safety technology, improved practicality, and significantly more style.

An impressive lineup of new hybrid engines

The 2023 Lexus RX will offer a significant hybrid engine lineup. At the heart of the new Lexus RX electrified vehicle family, we find the new Lexus RX 350h. This new hybrid version pairs a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with the electric motor in front, a smaller electric unit in the back, and a continuously variable automatic gearbox. The resulting 246 hp and 233 pound-feet of torque is less than what we find in the current Lexus RX 450h, but Lexus says the performance will be better as will the efficiency. Lexus claims a 0-100 km/h time of 7.6 seconds along with an average fuel consumption rating of 7.1 L per 100 km.

Next up in the Lexus RX lineup, we find the new Lexus RX 500h. This is one of the most powerful Lexus hybrid vehicles ever built. It features a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an electric powertrain and a six-speed automatic gearbox. It delivers 367 hp and a remarkable 406 pound-feet of torque. It will reach 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and yet it will average just 9 L per 100 km. Lexus says the 2023 RX will also be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain in the Lexus RX 450h+. Lexus didn't announce any specs for the new plug-in hybrid RX, but we expect it to deliver over 60 km of all-electric range.

Along with these three hybrid powertrains, the 2023 Lexus RX will be offered with a standard 2.4-litre turbo engine that replaces the outgoing V-6. This engine will deliver 275 hp along with 317 pound-feet of torque. This will deliver more performance than the previous V-6 along with significantly better fuel economy.

The 2023 Lexus RX is a lot more spacious than the previous model and it is also a lot more refined. It gets a wider and sportier stance with more interior space, especially for your passengers. It also gets new and advanced infotainment connectivity features that include a new Lexus infotainment system housed in a larger 14-inch touchscreen with advanced voice commands and navigation technology.
